For more than 25 years, public history initiatives at UNLV have prepared and placed graduate students for careers in the academy and the field.  Our graduates have taken jobs with the National Park Service and a range of land management and government agencies, at corporations such as Google and Zappos, as museum directors, and as public history educators at universities.

Graduate and undergraduate students are the driving force behind the Institute’s initiatives. Here, they learn to become adaptive scholars and practitioners—tweaking and trimming their research as the project develops.

They also find and share the secondary literature on as new topics emerge.   Professors serve as sounding boards and research advisors, as students identify and develop the project’s themes and presentation.

The “white-knuckle ride” of getting things done by a deadline is well beyond the bounds of traditional historical methods. But the students who are there on a Saturday afternoon, patching the peeling adobe in 115-degree heat, walk away with the confidence that they can conceive, orchestrate, and complete a public history project.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
